Lessons in the Wait
Lessons in the Wait. I’ve waited a long time for man child to be able to wear this shirt. Tonight, was Hawaiian night at the girls’ basketball game and I thought it would be perfect. I’m glad he agreed.
This was my great Uncle Aden’s shirt (or as I called him Tootie) that was handmade in Hawaii. He passed away in 1977 when I was only four years old at the young age of 67. He was very special to me and was an amazing Uncle for those four years. He bought me a radio flyer red wagon and pulled me anywhere I wanted to go. Our time together was far too short but to know him was to love him. This fall I actually purchased the exact same wagon at the Burlington KY Antique show.
When my great Aunt Mary passed away in 2000, I found his shirt and her matching dress in a drawer. They were so beautiful, and I knew they held a special memory to her, so I kept them. The shirt and dress were far to “snug” for me to ever wear but I knew that one day I would find the perfect use for them. So, I carried them from house to house from box to box and waited.
A friend took this picture at the game. I sure hope that I can be as cool as man child when I grow up.
I prayed one day that I would have a son that would wear Tootie’s shirt. I’ve kept his shirt for 22 years. Waiting.
I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. Keep your faith. All you need is faith the size of a mustard seed. God is faithful. It is not in our timing but in His. Peyton wasn’t born until 2005 and then I waited for the shirt to fit. There is a lot of lessons in the wait. Creating and making traditions is something I prayed about while I waited for Peyton. I am very intentional in the memories I create with him. I hope this gives you hope and peace in what you are waiting on.
