Why you should take your teen on a trip every year
Why you should take your teen on a trip every year. Have you ever stayed at the same hotel several times and it eventually feels like a second home? That is how we feel about Hotel Covington. When we walk in the lobby it just feels like comfort to us. This was our third stay at Hotel Covington and by far our favorite. If you’ve never taken your teen on a special Mom/son trip I highly encourage it.
My son is 14. He loves soccer, shopping, shoes and gaming. He has reached the age where he doesn’t say a lot. You know the one sided conversations that you’ve experienced with teens. Yep, that is us now. But I refuse to give up. And so I took him on the trip just the two of us. He was unplugged from gaming and I saw another side of him. The familiar side that I love.
Why you should take your teen on a trip every year:
Last year we spent four nights at Hotel Covington while my son attended the FC Barcelona Soccer Camp in NKY. This was the perfect location for us! It was convenient to camp and we enjoyed the luxury amenities of this boutique hotel. The staff was so accommodating to us and brought us ice daily for our cooler and filled my sons water bottle each morning. We loved our experience.
When I asked him where he wanted to stay this year he didn’t even hesitate for a second and immediately replied “Hotel Covington, of course”. And so that was that. We stayed in a 2-queen bed city view room. Our room on the 3rd floor was very nice, and the over-sized bathroom was modern and luxurious. We had plenty of room to spread out and didn’t feel cramped at all.
This is a very pet friendly hotel. In fact we saw dozens of dogs while we were visiting. There is a $75.00 fee is required at check-in to allow the hotel to clean and sanitize the room after departure and no more than two pets are allowed per guestroom. However I consider this a bargain if you are traveling with your dog. Something for us to consider next year!
The modern vibe of the hotel is something that really appeals to my son. We enjoyed spending time in the outdoor courtyard (patio). It gave us plenty of room to enjoy the outdoors without leaving our hotel in the evening. The lobby is seriously gorgeous. There is plenty of seating to hang out with friends, grab a drink or read a book and relax.
They also feature an Artisan Coffee Bar located in the lobby of Hotel Covington where you can grab a free cup of locally roasted coffee and a quick breakfast on the go. My son fell in love with the homemade croissants.
He said they are the best he has ever had. He also enjoyed the homemade marshmallow treats. All hotel guests receive 2 coffee tokens in their guest rooms that can be redeemed for a complimentary cup of drip coffee (per day) or a $1 off a specialty drink.
The hotel is home to the restaurant called Coppins. It is simply our favorite spot for a Mom/Son date night! Don’t be concerned if you think the menu is small because every single item we tried was delicious and there is something for everyone. They have several gluten free and vegan options too! I mean just look at his face! That is a happy teenager!
Even my picky teen was happy and that is saying a lot! Eating at Coppins was one of the highlights of our stay! Plus, they will customize to suit your needs. The service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was too! It is the perfect backdrop for conversation.
Hotel Covington is easily our favorite hotel in NKY. It is clean, comfortable, and modern with a nostalgic charm. It is luxurious and really welcoming. All of the staff that we experienced from housekeeping, valet, managers, to dining were friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend Hotel Covington if you are looking for a destination in NKY or Cincinnati.
We just wrapped up a fantastic week filled with long talks, many laughs and made memories that will last us a lifetime. This was Peyton’s last year for Barcelona Camp in NKY but we’ve decided to make this trip an annual tradition and I’m all in! 💕 I love this guy so much. There is nothing better than Mother/Son time! So this is why you should take your teen on a trip every year. We are looking forward to next year!

Going away and spending quality time with your teen is so nice. I have a 14 year old too and would love to make memories like this at a fabulous hotel.
It was awesome and Hotel Covington was the perfect destination! 🙂 I highly recommend it!
Gotta love that quality time spent with the kids! Money was tight growing up so we couldn’t afford to travel each year. I went on a mother-daughter trip last fall (the last time we did was 7 years prior!) and it was amazing. We had the best time!
That is awesome that you did a Mom/Daughter trip. So meaningful.
You really do go and create memories when you head off with your child don’t you? I have some great memories of holidays with my parents when I was younger.
I do! I live to create memories that will last us a lifetime!
This sounds like a really great idea. So glad you guys have a good time! Looks like this would be a beautiful hotel to stay in and it’s great to have vegan and gluten free options on the menu.
Yes! Hotel Covington is one of our favorite places to stay!
As a mom to 2 teens myself, I am glad that Hotel Covington is teen approved. It does look upscale, yet family friendly and inviting. The food loos absolutely amazing, so I can see why he loved it so much there.
Yes! I love that it is a luxury hotel but welcomes teens! So family friendly and welcoming. Yes, it is his happy place!
This is a great idea. My daughter and I spend a lot of time together at home but spend very little time together away from home. We would have a blast doing this I think!
We are generally the same. Lots of Mom/Son time but had never done this until he was a teen. I love this new chapter with him as he is reaching adulthood.
The older that my daughter gets, the more aware that I am that she only has a limited number of summers with us! It makes me sad and makes me want to spend lots of time with her.
It is so true! I wrote this post about how 18 summers is all we get! I only have 4 more!

What a great tradition! The hotel looks amazing and so does the restaurant! I wish I had been able to do that with my kids, but it wasn’t really an option for us
Some of my best memories are trips taken with my daughter. It’s so important to give them this time because you will never get it back.
Amen! 18 summers is all we get! – https://www.stockpilingmoms.com/how-to-create-the-best-summer-vacation-with-kids/
I think that is a wonderful idea as well. It’s nice to just get away with your kids once and awhile. I don’t have any teens yet, but I can see doing this with them when they do reach that age.
These little gestures by the staff are important in making a hotel experience memorable. Seems like a lovely place.
So true! Hotel Covington really gets it! Their customer service is superior.
Awesome tips for teen’s parents! I will need these tips very soon, I think! 🙂
Thanks! The days are long but the years are fast! Don’t blink!
Hotel Covington is gorgeous. We will be in NYC next year, so I will have to look this hotel up and see if it is near where we are going to be.
Not close to NYC unless you make a detour to Cincinnati but oh so worth it!
This looks like the ultimate mommy/son trip. I love everything about this hotel. Would love to stay there.
It truly is the BEST! We love it here!
Yes planning trip with kids is always fun, need to be done every year. We plan at least one even though not long distance one. Looks like mom and son had fun trip, Food looks delicious too.
I agree! Yes, the food there is AMAZING! Coppins is an excellent place to dine in Covington, KY.
I think this is great. I have friends who do this and swear by it.
I will continue to do this! It was awesome!
I wish I had gone on a trip with my Mom every summer! Those would have been some sweet memories!
