Whiskey Thief Distillery Tour

If you are looking for a unique bourbon tour and tasting, then a visit to Whiskey Thief Distillery Tour is exactly where you should go. My husband I visited on our 24th anniversary and it was a really neat experience.

Whiskey Thief Distillery Tour:

Located in Frankfort Kentucky this distillery is off the beaten path but close to the interstate. It is really unique because it is located on a 127-acre working farm. They grow their own corn that is used in the mash, and everything is done on site.

What makes this so unique is that you get to taste from the barrel! The bourbon hasn’t been proofed so you get a truly authentic experience. As of this time the bourbon is not sold anywhere other than from the distillery which makes it a true craft experience.

This distillery is not officially on the bourbon trail (yet) but hopefully it will be soon. We took the Whiskey Thief Tour at the still house for $25 where we could sample up to five Bourbons and/or Whiskeys straight from the barrel. You even get to keep your shot glass that you sample from! This distillery was formerly known as Three Boys Distillery.

My husband sampled and then chose to purchase a bottle. He got to fill it directly from the barrel that he tasted and then they sealed it, and he labeled it! It was a super cool experience and definitely special for this bourbon lover.

After our tasting we were taken on a tour of the facility, and they explained every step of the process to us. We also got to smell the head and tails of the bourbon. It was a real hands-on great experience and one of kind experience in Kentucky.

A visit to the gift shop afterward concludes the tour. (~45 mins). 1 appointment is needed per group, but each individual tasting and touring will need to pay $25 per person upon arrival. Be sure to say hello to Remi, the distillery dog!

We have toured several big-name distilleries, and this was hands down one of the coolest experiences. My hubby always says the two best things that ever came out of Kentucky was his bride and bourbon.

BEST KENTUCKY TRAVEL DESTINATIONS:

Visit Natural Bridge – I may never get to see the 7 wonders of the world, but I did get to see the wonder of Kentucky!  If you get the chance, you really need to Visit Natural Bridge located in Slade, Kentucky.  We are a hiking family and we had never been to this area.

Road Trip to Rabbit Hash – Step Back in a moment in time! The town is notable for its name, its string of canine mayors, and its historic general store which was largely destroyed by fire in 2016.

The Kentucky Castle – The Kentucky Castle is a unique destination that EVERYONE needs to put on their travel bucket list right here in Central Kentucky. It is not every day that you get the opportunity to stay in a castle.

Cumberland Falls – Cumberland Falls and is known as the Niagara of the South. It is one of the most impressive waterfalls in the South and is definitely one to see.  It is located in Corbin, KY.

Red River Gorge Getaway – This is one of the best getaways in Kentucky!

Big Bone Lick State Park – Big Bone Lick State Park is in Union Kentucky and located close to nearby Cincinnati, Ohio for those wanting to check it out. It is a great road trip destination.

Day Trip to Irvine Ky – If you are looking for something fun to do consider a day trip to Irvine KY. We spent the day exploring a distillery in Ravenna which is a city located in Estill County. It is beautiful.
