Hotel Covington – Luxury Boutique Hotel with Urban Charm

We are home from a weekend getaway at the Hotel Covington.  It is a luxury boutique property with urban charm.  We fell in love with the vibe as soon as we walked into the door. The iconic 1910 Coppin’s Department Store building has recently been restored to a space that is perfect for a weekend getaway, wedding, special occasion celebration or just meeting up with friends for drinks.

Regardless of what you have on your mind Hotel Covington is the place to do it. It has quickly become our favorite place to stay in NKY.

Located south of Cincinnati, OH on Madison Ave in Covington, KY the hotel features 114 urban chic guest rooms. When you walk into the hotel you will see the gorgeous lobby. With a rustic color scheme of black, white, grey and pops of color it has a luxury feel with urban charm.  The The lobby is welcoming and has been divided into multiple seating areas so that you can enjoy a drink or conversation and not feel that you are in a hotel lobby. The chandeliers set the tone hung from the tall ceilings that are breathtaking.

In the lobby you can visit The Coffee Bar which serves locally roasted Carabello Coffee and pastries in the morning. Tim and I enjoyed a complementary cup each morning as a hotel guest. Hotel Covington is home to Coppin’s Restaurant & Bar.  It features a hyper-local menu that is out of this world.  We had the chance to grab a bite and we are so glad we did.  The seating is perfect for a cozy date night or night out with friends.

The Lobby displays an impressive collection of 22 vintage oak barrels as a feature wall.  My husband was really impressed and it was his favorite features of the lobby.  Of course Bourbon is what Kentucky is known for!

The Walk Up at Hotel Covington offers guests and passersby is a nod to food trucks.  They offer a quick bite of street food at (nearly) all hours.  They also have the gorgeous Scheper Dining Room which is available for private events.

Just outside the first-floor common area is Hotel Covington’s 6,000-square-foot enclosed area called The Courtyard.  It is the perfect back drop for events, weddings, parties, and they offer a rotating program of visiting musicians and bands.  It is simply breathtaking at night with the lights.  While we visited there was a wedding on the second evening of our stay.

A word of caution to those with a courtyard side room, the music is extremely loud so my advice is to request a non courtyard side room if there is a wedding or a live band scheduled and you want to relax and unwind before 11:00 pm.  They do have an 11 pm end time for the musicians however it was extremely loud in our room and we wished we had known in advance and would have requested a city side room. We would love to go back and compare the other side and check out of the of the other suite options.  The first night there was no issue as there was no live music but the second night there was a wedding.  If you are going to be out late a courtyard side room would still be a great option.

Finally let’s talk about the room.  High end luxury was not spared in the rooms. We stayed in the Madison King Deluxe. It was clean, crisp and comfy.  So spacious for a city hotel.  With lots of room to spread out and relax.  It was extremely clean and the design was A+. I loved the black, white and grey theme.  And that light fixture.  Pure love.

Amenities with this room included: Flat screen LCD, Free Wi-Fi, Mini-fridge stocked with local goodies, Free local calls, Revo Super Signal Alarm Clock Stereo, Desk, Hair Dryer, In-room Safe, Iron and ironing board.  They also offered a complementary cup of coffee from The Coffee Bar per person (each day).

In addition Hotel Covington thought of every detail.  We found an umbrella in case of rain, a variety of personal care products in the bathroom, a stocked wet bar and collection of local snacks available for purchase, UNO and a magic eight ball in case you were looking for in room entertainment.  Of course the faux fur accents were a lovely addition to the design and gave the room a lush feel.

I was impressed with the classic bathroom design.  The clean vertically laid white subway tile gave the room a classic feel and made the space feel bigger than it was.  The concrete counter and the over-sized vanity was perfect because there was plenty of room to leave your items out and stay organized while traveling.

I would highly recommend staying at Hotel Covington and hope that we will be able to return. I loved the old world charm with the urban chic design in this boutique hotel. It is the perfect location if you are visiting Mainstrasse Village or going to a Bengals or Reds game.  If you are considering Covington, KY for a weekend getaway there is no better hotel to consider.

  2. Wow, it looks great! We used to travel loads and these days it feels like its been forever since we stayed in a nice hotel. I particularly like their outdoor area, not enough places have charming courtyards like that. I love staying somewhere with a bit of history too, and they’ve done a great job on the decor.

  3. Wow! It’s so beautiful. We’ll definitely stay here when we visit KY. I love the floor tile in the bathroom and the US map cutout against the wine barrels. Really really love it! Thanks for sharing. We’ll ask for a room not on the side of the courtyard so the kids can sleep well.. and early!
