Edible Finger Paint – Make Learning Fun
We are love with the homemade finger paint that is easy to make and fun for your kids to create their own artwork! Best of all this is safe for babies and toddlers too because it is safe to eat! It is gluten free too! It is simple to make your own edible sugar finger paint with this recipe.
Edible Finger Paint:
Not only is it hours of fun there are no concerns about even the youngest using this finger paint recipe for that is safe for babies and toddlers while fun to create with and safe to eat! With only three ingredients plus water this is the easiest craft to make!
Simply mix sugar, corn starch and water together in a saucepan. Stirring with a whisk, heat mixture over medium heat. Once it begins to thicken, remove from heat. You can simply add water if the mixture is too thick.
Divide paint mixture equally between four bowls and add four drops of food coloring to each. Best of all you can use all natural food coloring or create bright neon, primary or pastels (use less drops to create lighter shades).
We found that using finger paint paper worked the best for this project. After you are finished you can store the finger paint in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

This is a great craft for summer fun or rainy days! By making your own edible sugar finger paint your kids can create an original paining for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. It is also perfect for a quick play date. The kids will love this activity and it is perfect for any time of the year! Of course the clean up is nice and easy in the summer when you can clean up outside or you can follow up with a nice bubble bath!
Not only is this pain excellent for babies and toddlers it is actually perfect for older children too! In fact we used the finger paint for spelling word practice for the win! Not only were there no complaints about homework there were actually smiles! Now that is a win/win for everyone!
We used wooden craft sticks for spreading the paint or you can use a paint brush. Then we used fingers for more fun and even learning too. We do suggest wearing old clothes and protecting surfaces.

I love the bright colors and not having to worry about toxic ingredients. When my nephews come over I am going to make this and let them lick their hands clean when done! lol Maybe not exactly but I will be glad that I don’t have to worry about any permanent messes or accidents! Thanks for sharing!
This looks like so much fun to make with kiddos, plus it’s really cool that the paint is edible. That is such an issue with the toddlers (and the adventurous preschoolers)! I also love the bright colors you can make with the food coloring!
I never would have thought that to make finger paints!! I bet the kids would love coloring the paint as well and watching it cook. Looks like a fun rainy day project for the kids to get to do.
I love this safe, fun, and absolutely cool DIY! Thanks for sharing this! I knew there was a way to make edible paint and share it with my niece and nephew, but couldn’t find a tutorial. Thanks to your post I now have a resource. 🙂
How fun! I would have never thought of mixing up something like this to make edible finger paint. I’m sure the kids all love it.
Oh how cool! That t-shirt came out awesome! This is something I wish I would have known about years ago but I’m definitely going to make this for my youngest boy. He would really love this and I’m happy to hear that it is easy to clean up after. =)
Oh wow my parents have never let us create so much fun and creative stuff like this! Edible sugar finger paint sounds too good for kids. The recipe is easy to follow and the ingredients are safe. I am sure that kids will enjoy doing artworks with the paint brush.
Oh this is such a great idea! I have a two year old who likes eating his art supplies instead of being creative with them so these would be a Godsend for him. I have to whip up some colours for him and inspire him to get painting!
I love this idea because it means that all of my kids, no matter what age, can participate and I know it will be safe for them. I think part of learning is to see, smell, touch, and even taste new things so not being worried about messy fingers going into their mouths is great! I’ve also tried to keep down the mess by having them paint inside the bathtub. A safer finger paint is great for that as well!
You are so right, these little finger paints will make the perfect rainy day fun (for this adult even)! Thanks so much for sharing a simple way for my niece and I to have fun getting messy together!
