Easy Slow Cooker Shredded Chicken is my favorite way to make shredded chicken for recipes. I always stock up on chicken when it is on a manager’s special at my local grocery store or buy it in bulk when it is on sale at Costco. I will then make shredded chicken to freeze for future use. This is a great tip for those on a low carb diet, handy to have and heat up when you want it.
Never let chicken go to waste again. My family prefers white meat, so I always buy boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Now you can use the chicken right away for a recipe after pulling it from the slow cooker and shredding. Some of my favorite recipes using shredded chicken are Chicken Tator Tot Bake, Crockpot Chicken Tortilla Soup and King Ranch Chicken.
All you need to make Easy Slow Cooker Shredded Chicken is chicken breasts, chicken bouillon cubes, water, salt, pepper and poultry seasoning. Of course, you also need a crockpot. The size will depend on how much chicken you are making. You never want to fill your slow cooker more than 3/4 of the way. So be sure to pick a size that works for you. The recipe below is perfect for a 4 or 5 QT crockpot. Make sure you adjust the seasonings if you are making larger amounts of shredded chicken.
Place the chicken breasts in the slow cooker. Next season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper and poultry seasoning. Place the chicken bouillon cubes in the crockpot and add the water. Place the lid on the crockpot and let the chicken cook on low for 8 hours. Next, remove the chicken and shred using two forks. Let the chicken cool, then place in freezer safe bags and place in freezer. When you are ready to use, let the bag thaw in the fridge for a day. Easy Slow Cooker Shredded ChickenPrint Recipe
- 3-4 chicken breasts boneless and skinless
- 3 chicken bullion cubes
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp poultry seasoning
- 2 1/2 cups water
- Place all ingredients in the slow cooker.
- Place lid on and cook on low for 8 hours.
- Remove chicken and shred.
- Serve right away or freeze until ready to use.
