Day Trip to Shaker Village

My husband I just celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary. We were looking for local ideas and decided to make a day trip to Shaker Village. We are so glad we did.

Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill is a landmark destination that shares 3,000 acres of property in the spirit of the Kentucky Shakers. It is home to the third largest Shaker community in the United States between 1805 and 1910. It will literally feel like you stepped back in time once you arrive.

There is so much to see and do at Shaker Village. You can enjoy the quaint experience where you can take tours of the property, go on a hike, check out the waterfalls, visit the farm animals and enjoy a delicious meal. Once you arrive you will immediately feel relaxed.

You can enjoy an overnight stay if you want to turn this into a getaway. Shaker Village has been a warm center of hospitality for more than 200 years. Named a top hidden travel destination by BBC News, The Inn is much more than a traditional hotel. Guest rooms, suites and private cottages—each offering distinct character—are located in 13 restored Shaker buildings.

Rooms are comfortably appointed with Shaker reproduction furniture, original hardwood floors and spectacular countryside views.

The highlight of our visit was our amazing dinner at the Trustees Table. They have a delicious gluten free menu in addition to their traditional menu. Enjoy traditional favorites and seasonal Kentucky dishes prepared with straight-from-the-garden ingredients. They even served gluten free homemade rolls.

The Trustees’ Table’s menus celebrate Shaker Village’s roots by featuring dishes made of seasonal ingredients from our garden and local farmers. The menus offer dishes inspired by the seasons, changing based on the freshest locally available ingredients. They offer live music on Friday and Saturday evenings.

They had some shopping onsite too. Shop signature Shaker oval boxes, logo merchandise and seasonal gifts, as well as unique children’s gifts, books, soaps and lotions, jams and jellies, Shaker reproductions and more.

Enjoy a variety of activities and programs throughout the Village that change seasonally. Learn new skills at hands-on workshops in The Historic Centre, work the livestock and tend the garden on The Farm, and hike (or ride) through The Preserve. They offer hayrides, river boat rides and horse drawn wagon rides too!

If you are looking for a fun day trip or overnight trip consider Shaker Village.
