Stay hydrated with water. Just because you are on the road doesn’t mean it is time to go back to old habits. Continue drinking plenty of water each day while you are driving, flying or just hanging out at your destination. Water helps flush your body of toxins, as well as curbs your appetite. When you are drinking water you aren’t giving in to drinking empty calories.

Book hotels with an in house gym. Check when you are booking your hotels to see if they have an in house gym. Most hotels now have a gym in house that includes treadmills, a few weights and occasionally an elliptical.

Pack your gym clothes and shoes. Go prepared. If you make room in your luggage for your gym clothes you will be more likely to put them to use. Tennis shoes, yoga pants, t-shirts and a sports bra are a must for those early morning jogs or circuits in the gym.

Split meals to lighten calories. Instead of ordering a full entree, split with a friend. If you can’t easily split with another person, pack away the leftovers for a second meal, or order ala carte items instead of the full entree.

Pack your own healthy snacks. If you are on a road trip it is much easier to pack your own healthy snacks. Look for things that are non perishable, but easy to pack to supplement your meals on the road.

Skip the taxi and walk to your destinations. You can definitely save some money and burn calories if you walk to your destinations instead of riding in a car or driving. It’s easy to pack the walking shoes and burn a few extra calories between your hotel and next appointment.

Check menus online. One great way to make good food choices is to check restaurant menus online for ingredients. You can plan ahead to be able to make good healthy choices when you arrive at the restaurant. Chains will even have calorie figures online for you. Small local restaurants may be harder to determine, but avoiding cream sauces, cheese sauces and fried items is always wise.

These tips for staying fit while traveling is sure to keep you active, healthy and on the right track this summer!
