How to make Hot Chocolate Bombs

Have you wanted to learn how to make a hot chocolate bombs? They are all the rage right now! If you want to enjoy some but don’t want to spend a small fortune then check out this simple DIY.

A hot cocoa bomb is basically a hollow chocolate ball filled with marshmallows and hot cocoa mix. The neat treat turns any mug of hot milk into a steaming mug of hot chocolate, complete with marshmallows, in a matter of seconds. They’re also so much fun to watch.

How to make hot chocolate bombs:

Start off by purchasing these Semi Sphere Silicone Molds. My friend Brittney made these. She said it is trial and error so expect your first batch to not be your best. She used 3 large 72% dark chocolate bars from Kroger private selection. She melted those in the microwave and then used a double boiler to keep it a melted state and good temperature.

Place a spoonful in the silicon mold and then use a silicon pastry brush to coat the mold. Place in the refrigerator for 5 minutes and then do a second coat. Place back into the refrigerator for 5 minutes. If it cracks don’t worry just add more chocolate and repeat the process.

Then you warm a dinner plate for 30 seconds in the microwave and swirl them in to create a smooth edge, put a half of a pack of cocoa mix, marshmallows or whatever other candy/chocolate chips you want inside.

When you are ready to close, swirl the other half in the plate. You then run your finger over it to seal. If you need more chocolate to seal you can use additional that you have on the plate.

Then decorate the top however you desire. You can use leftover chocolate, candy or sprinkles. It is your choice!
