DIY Pedicures

DIY Spa Night is a fun summer activity with the kids!

DIY Pedicures – It is almost flip flop season!  Are you excited?  I know I am!  One thing that I really look forward too is wearing my sandals.  However, after a long winter I dread the condition of my feet.  When I was teaching one thing, I treated myself to be a pedicure.  As a teacher your feet really get neglected so getting a pedicure was something I did for myself.

As a stay-at-home Mom I can say that I quickly gave up the pedicures and most everything else I did for myself when I started staying home.  Two years ago, I decided that there was no reason why I could have pedicures at home.  So now I do a monthly Do It Yourself Pedicure!

I always schedule a DIY Pedicure with my family.  I let them know that I am taking an hour to myself, and I turn on some relaxing music and literally lock myself away just as I would be if I was at the salon.

DIY Spa Night

Invest in a foot spa.  I actually asked for one for Christmas.  It was nothing I would normally purchase for myself and getting one as a gift was a great treat!  You can also use your bathtub and soak your feet in warm water/Epson salt/favorite essential oil.

Purchase a pumice stone or buffing file.  Dry your feet completely then buff unwanted callouses.

Make your own foot scrub.  Here is a simple recipe.

Pour 1/4 cup of raw sugar into a medium sized bowl.
Add 1/4 cup of sweet almond oil to the sugar and stir them together.
Stir in 15 drops of your favorite essential oil.
Pour the mixture into either a small wide mouth glass jar, or into a 4 oz. plastic salve container.

To Use:  Place a small amount in the palm of your hand and scrub over your entire moistened foot.  I like to use up to my knee to remove dead skin and really exfoliate.  Rinse off your foot in the shower or tub, getting all the excess oils off.

Trim your nails. Be sure not to trim to short.  Sometimes I file them instead of trimming.

Moisturize your legs and feet with a nice creme.

Push back the cuticles on your toenails and if you are lucky as someone to give you a foot massage:-) If not then just apply a fresh coat of nail polish and you are ready for some flip flops!

  1. Sometimes I prefer the DIY pedicure (cheaper and usually looks better if I take my time)! Thanks for the scrub recipe, can’t wait to try it out! 🙂
