American Sign Museum
We took the opportunity this summer to visit the American Sign Museum. This quirky museum is dedicated to the art of American signage. It is a must see on your travel bucket list.
American Sign Museum:
My son loves neon signs. If you have a teen I highly recommend that you make a trip to visit if you are in the Cincinnati area. There is very little that my son asks to do and when we asked me if we could go check out some neon signs I said YES.
The owner and proprietor, Tod Swormstedt, has put together a massive collection of over 500 vintage signs once found throughout the country. An avid collector, his compilation ranges from advertisements to shiny Las Vegas neon lights. You can take a self-guided tour through the museum and be entertained with fun and interesting stories of the life and times of American signs.
Due to COVID before you visit before you visit please review their safety protocols, and purchase advanced tickets. They also offer an online audio tour for more info!
The American Sign Museum is 20,000 square feet of more than a century of American signage. From early, pre-electric signs adorned in goldleaf, to the earliest electric signs, to beautiful art-deco neon, to the modern plastic-faced sign, the museum covers it all. Expect to spend at least an hour exploring the history of this always-seen, but virtually unnoticed, industry. Stroll down your personal memory lane!
My son really enjoyed meeting with the owners of Neonworks. They create neon signs on the spot and it was really interesting to see after our self guided tour.
The location of the American Sign Museum is 1330 Monmouth St, Cincinnati, OH 45225. You also get a Moon Pie when you exit which was pretty exciting for the hubby. They are his favorite childhood treat.
