How to TEST your Slow Cooker

How to TEST your Slow Cooker to make sure it is heating properly.  Do you have an older model slow cooker or think it is not heating right?  Then you need to take these simple steps to make sure it is working right.  There is nothing worse than putting food in your crockpot and then thinking is it safe to eat.

How to TEST your Slow Cooker

Fill your slow cooker 1/2 to 2/3 full of water.

Turn on the crockpot and set it to the low heat setting.

Heat the water for at least 8 hours.

Check the water temperature with a food thermometer. The water temp should be 185*F.

If the temp is lower. it’s time to replace your slow cooker.

  1. I love the idea but i leave for work about 8 and don’t get home till after 6.
    If the slow cooker turns to warm for that length of time, the food would be over cooked and dry.
    Any suggestions?
