How Price Matching Works
Price Matching is AWESOME! If you are not familiar with price matching what it means is IF your store prices matches that you can “match” the same price from a competitor store at a store that may be more conveniently located to you or offers incentives for you to shop at that store. I love to price match because it keeps me from driving all over town.
How Price Matching Works:
There are a few stores that DO price match. My favorite is Walmart. They price match with a current sales ad. It may not be printed off the internet, it must be an original sales ad with current date according to their corporate policy. All you do is take your item to the customer service desk with the sales flyer and they will manually change the price down to match the competitor. You can price matches to Target, CVS, Walgreen’s, Aldi, Kroger, Meijer and even Toys R Us – any store that your store considers a competitor!
Why I like this is because I no longer have to drive to a store that is not “on my way” and I can now price match at a store that I would be going to anyway. For example, this week Aldi has Avocado for $.29! I can simply take the sales ad to my local store and get the same price!
Meijer also price matches grocery items to those stores that they consider a true competitor. So, for instance one of my local Meijer’s price matches Walmart where another does not. It is the same process at Walmart. They price match with a current sales ad. It may not be printed off the internet, it must be an original sales ad with current date. All you do is take your item to the customer service desk with the sales flyer and they will manually change the price down to match the competitor.
Target price matches as well. If you find an item in a competitor’s printed ad that is priced lower than it is at your Target store, they will match the price. The competitor’s ad must be local and current, and the product must be the identical item, brand name, quantity and model number. Target.com is excluded from their price matching policy. Competitor catalogs can also be ad matched as long as the catalog displays a valid date and meets all other qualifications.
Another store that Price Matches is Kohl’s. If you find the same item with a lower price at another store, they will match/beat the competitor’s price. Just bring a copy of the competitor’s ad with the current date on it to your nearest Kohl’s Department Store. (Make sure the ad includes a description of the item.) This applies to in-store prices and products only, not to Kohls.com pricing or products.
Stores that do not price match include CVS, Walgreens and Kroger.

So with Target…if you price match can you still use store coupon along with manufacture coupons to get it even cheaper???

I price match at Wal-mart ALL the time. At our wal-mart in Colorado they will do it at a regular checkout and will even price match generic for generic. Many times I will get walmart brand in place of kroger brand (example peanut butter 10 for 10) yep.. walmart will match it! I typically save at least 40-50% of my bill just price matching (work fabulous for fresh veggies and fruit)!
Totally worth the extra time it takes to check out, just do your home work and know ahead of time which items are in which adds so, you are not fumbling at the cash register.
I have used price matching at xmas time, but never ever thought the stores let you do this throughout the year!!!

Wow this is great! I have never price matched because I did not realize the stores would price match Aldi’s sales. However I must admit Walmart and Meijer are directly across the street from each other and Aldi is a mile down the road with our house being 4 miles away from all 3.

At my walmart in missouri they allow you to print off ads from the internet so long as it has the store name and it has the dates they will use it 🙂 I found an ad for a store 20 miles from me online and got mac n cheese for 59 cents each thanks to an online ad. Its worth a shot to do and the easiest way is to type in the stores names you dont get in your weekley newspaper and they usually will have their ad online and usually it will have the dates on it just print the color instead of the ones that are all words. And the walmart I use wont let you use coupons with ads. Its one or the other unfortunately.
I just returned from our WalMart in Missosuri. As stated above, they will take an internet copy grocery ad. B/W or color and the date of the ad must be visible. However, my store will take manufacturer cpns as well. Also, they will stack cpns, for example, a Target cpn along with a mcpn. Wonder how long that will happen until they change their policy. We live 70 miles from the nearest city were we can seriously shop. Our town only has a WalMart, so price matching is a must!

If you Walmart is not allowing you to use coupons with price matching then they are wrong. You need to call Walmart corp at 1800-walmart and let them know.
Also I am going to see if my Meijer will price match because they double coupons where Walmart doesn’t which sucks. I will they did. If Walmart figured out that they could take over a lot of the competition by doubling coupons and price matching rr and ecbs and ups. they could even have a person buy the item just like they would in the store and load the rr to a walmart gift card. That way the the money gets spent in their store rather than price matching after rewards.

Will Walmart price match my cvs flyer – on the item I’d to price match it is written ‘with store card only’… Will they still match the price that is printed on the flyer?
Price matching has been a lifesaver for me. A number of our stores DO NOT price match but I take advanteage (for lack of better terms) those that do.
I have always found it easiest to price match at Walmart. At the Walmart in Milford they will price match right at the register. Our Walmart does request that you have the competitors circular with you which is different than their coupon policy states.
I have had a tough time with Target. They did change their coupon policy and now… if there is an in store (Target) coupon they will apply that prior to price matching… that is kinda blah… but at least they still price match!
The place that has given me the most flack is Meijer because a number of the cashiers/customer service people do not know their own coupon policy and I feel like I have to educate them lol.
Overall… price matching is awesome. I admit, it makes me feel like I am getting “a leg up” when really… I am just playing by the established rules.
I didn’t know Kohl’s price matched. I don’t shop there often since it’s across town. I LOVE ad matching at Walmart! At ours we don’t even have to bring the sales papers with us, we just tell them what store and how much and they look it up for us with their own papers. Saved me from having to drag all the papers in. I just jot down the info on the back of my shopping list.
