Check out this DIY How to Make Mercury Glass. I love the look of mercury glass…but not so much the price tag that usually is attached. With this DIY How to Make Mercury Glass there is a way you can mimic the look of expensive mercury glass in three easy steps for a fraction of the price!
Any clear glass item will work, so be sure to stop by your favorite $1 store to stock up. I have even used recycled jars like spaghetti sauce jars and baby food jars.
You could pair some mercury glass votive holders with small candles for an excellent gift! This would make a great Mother’s Day Gift, Wedding Gift, Bridal Shower Gift, Teacher Appreciation Gift or Christmas Gift. Be sure to give this simple DIY a try! You will be glad you did.
DIY How to Make Mercury Glass:
Supplies:
- clear glass items of your choice
- spray bottle of water (be sure to pick up a new bottle or one that has never had chemicals in it)
- Krylon Looking Glass spray paint (very shiny silver)
Step 1: Mist your glass item with water. Pick up a plastic bottle at your local dollar store. Do not use one that had chemicals in it.
Step 2: Immediately spray the Looking Glass spray paint over the water. The water will repel some of the spray paint to give it the mercury glass feel. It is easy to do.
Step 3: Let dry overnight. You can place on cardboard or newspaper while it dries.
This is such a gorgeous DIY project to make. This would be gorgeous for wedding decor. You could place it on each of the tables or make vases as centerpieces. Really the sky is the limit. It would also be a great decor idea for a wedding shower and you could use the mercury glass as giveaways or favors. I hope you enjoy this tutorial on How to Make Mercury Glass. It is a great way to save money and perfect for gift giving. Everyone will be in awe and think you spend a fortune when in reality you spent less than $5.00 for this gorgeous decor.

Hi there! Can you tell me if you spray the paint/water on the inside or the outside of the glass? Thank you so much!
Cynthia
outside of the glass 🙂
Help. I can’t find the spray at Michaels or Joanne’s
They carry it at Wal Mart…
Also at Lowes.
I was wondering if it can be sprayed with clear coat, or if the finish will last a long time.
Thanks for showing us!
Yes, you can!
How easy is that, wow! I think I’ll try it with some clear vases I have!
