Our Frugal Gingerbread House

Our favorite family tradition and some ideas for how to decorate!

One of our favorite things is building Our Frugal Gingerbread House. We do this each year! One of my favorite Christmas traditions.

Our Frugal Gingerbread House:

As you know in the post, I wrote earlier this week about how to create meaningful Christmas traditions and one of our favorite family activities is making a gingerbread house. We make it from scratch and use a gingerbread mold, then together as a family we decorate it. Here is the final product!

In an effort to save money we save our Halloween and Christmas Candy to use.  I know that sounds strange, but we decided that since we won’t be eating at the house that using stale candy would not be an issue.  This worked out perfect!

Years ago, I purchased gingerbread house molds to use in my classroom and now we are using them each year for our family  This is a very frugal project and a family tradition and we all enjoy!  One of my favorite icing recipes is this one – Homemade Whipped Cream Cheese Icing.

We also make Reindeer Food and put it out on Christmas Eve.
